What is TFS?

Team Foundation Server (commonly abbreviated TFS) is a Microsoft offering for source control, data collection, reporting, and project tracking, intended for collaborative software development projects. It is available either as stand-alone software, or as the server side backend platform for Visual Studio Team System (VSTS).

What is Team Explorer?

Team Explorer is a Visual Studio integration addin for TFS. It's basically to TFS what this addin is to Trac.

Where can I get Team Explorer

You do not need to get it for this addin, but you might be interested what it's like.

From CodePlex:

  • Team Explore 2008 - This is the latest version of Team Explorer that integrates with Visual Studio 2008. This download is 387 MB. Download and install instructions are on the download page when you click on the link.
  • Team Explore 2005 - This is the older version of Team Explorer that integrates with Visual Studio 2005. This download is a 246 MB image (.img) file. To be able to run the install, you will first need to extract the .img file using 3rd party software that is capable of understanding *.img file extensions.
